Cults: When Conspiracy Theories Marry Religion

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

I used to be a big believer in conspiracy theories. I believed that the new world order was run by the illuminati and that all the governments in the world were in on a plan for world domiation, enslaving humanity with the help of the UN. Yeah, it went something like that. It was ridiculous.

Recently I met a woman who opened my eyes to how ridiculous these ideas are. She’s in her mid forties, unemployed, and lives in the ghetto part of Lockport Illinois surrounded by drug dealers and gangs. Her husband works for a Sonic Drive-In where he cleans the parking lot each morning. They live there along with their two kids, three guys (aged between 18 and 20), and are soon going to be adding an additional roommate to the collection. They pay no mortgage because they claim the bank made a mistake on some paperwork and they “don’t want to be tied to anything illegal”. I wonder if they know they will get kicked out regardless. The woman, whose name I will not mention, claims to be an ordained minister of Messianic Judaism but only preaches in her home and never let’s anyone know where or how she was ordained. She says she never went to school and that Yaweh opened her eyes to understand and find hidden messages in the bible.

Enough background information. Let’s get to the cult. This woman gets members by being the cool older lady who smokes pot with the kids. She gets them high and then constantly preaches how the bible and the new world order conspiracy go together. I won’t bore you with the actual conspiracies. You can look then up online.

These ideas are very tempting. Everyone would love to believe that they are privy to secret information the rear of the world doesn’t know therefor making those believers think they are special. There is a while industry devotes to making money off of these pseudoscientific theories and religious beliefs. Some of those making money off this stuff know it’s false while others are true believers.

The only way to combat these beliefs is with simple logic. Take a step back and simplify these beliefs. Pointing out how people choose to make connections where there are none may help. Opposing opinions do not sway these believers. Only fact and logic can challenge these ridiculous theories. I could go into specific examples of how this can be done but I am feeling lazy today. If after confronting these people with logic they refuse to even consider your ideas then whomever you are talking to is beyond saving. These people have something missing in their lives and often are looking to blame something or someone outside of themeselces for their lot in life. Like I said before these ideas are tempting and appeal to something within us that make us want to believe. Most of the time those preaching the gospel of the absurd are very charismatic. This combined with the tempting ideas themselves can sucker us into believing in fantasies.

No one really knows the answers to the big questions. Don’t trust anyone who says they know. Question everything and use simple logic to make sure everything makes sense. Always research both sides of any theory or religious belief before accepting a position. Don’t be a sucker.

When you go to the Felix pages and any other pages besides the blog and the Feed those are all run by scripts that retrieve information from a database. I even have an admin area that you’ll never see that allows me to log in and create, update, and delete the information on any page. And I wrote it all myself./p>p style=”clear: both”>Its a lot like art. Web design and programming is a very creative process. People think its only for super smart or just plain nerdy people. Its not. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to find that it attracts highly creative people./p>p style=”clear: both”>Seacrest, out!/p>br class=”final-break” style=”clear: both” />

Israel is the REAL Oppressor

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Unfortunately we live in a country (The United States for you retards out there) that thinks and acts illogically more times than you’d want the world’s one super-power (at least for now) to act illogically. This lack of logic is exemplified in its stance on Israel and the multitude of conflicts they are involved in.

America is pretty much Israel’s yes-man. Their lap dog. This seems ass backwards seeing

Palestinian searches trash for food

Palestinian searches trash for food

as how we’re the world’s super-power. We should be over there negotiating agreements between the Israeli’s and Palestinians. I know now that I said this some asshole is going to leave a comment (using a fake email and some jerk-ass name because they’re afraid I’m going to spam them because they disagree with me) saying something like this:

“Uh-duh, ‘merica is negotiatin’ peas agreemen’s wit da nice Jews ‘n’ arab peoples”

(I’m sure some idiot is going to post something along those lines anyway, LOL) Well guess what imaginary commenter? We really haven’t done that in decades. What America has been calling negotiation is nothing more than being Israel’s lawyer. What began as a non-partisan mission to help both sides turned into the U.S. allowing Israel to run amock and giving Palestine a big fat “Rod Blagojevich” up the anus. Get it? Rod?

Every time there is a conflict between Israel and anyone in the Middle East America tries to play it cool and act like they have nothing to do with it. They try to look neutral and give hollow speaches about peace and the right to defend and all that crap.

Before I go on I have to say that I am not anti-semitic. Its so sad that this culture considers any opinion that doesn’t support Israel, no matter how valid it is, heresy. It really is heresy to speak out against Israel. Especially among the Born Agains and Evengelicals. Evangelicals are the worst. Evengelicals don’t support every action Israel takes because they love the people of Israel or even because they think Israel is right. They support it because these freaks are trying to bring about the rapture in the Bible’s Book of Revelations. These people are religious fanatics or extremists just like the “terrorists” they hate. Just like the “terrorists” that gives them the excuses to take away rights guaranteed in the constitution. But I digress. What I’m saying is that we need to encourage honesty and objectivity when evaluating the situation in Israel or any situation for that matter. Don’t buy into this doctrine that says you can’t speak ill of Israel or you’re commiting heresy.

America condones and encourages the outrageous actions of Israel. While the politicians in the states are making those speaches on peace and other generic crap their underlings are on the phone, writing emails, and on planes working on the real agenda. What these people are doing is condemning Israel for any “overly cruel” attacks in public while giving them the go-ahead with a nod and a wink to absolutely devastate their enemies in private. I give major props to any Arab nation that has the balls to fight Israel. Israel is the United States of the Middle East in terms of Military muscle. Since its creation Israel has been given gobs, ass loads, and heaps of weapons for their military. So far they’re the only Middle Eastern state with nukes. And I’m willing to bet they wouldn’t hesitate to use them if it weren’t for the US. Thank God we still have some control when it comes to Israel.

God promised the land we now call Israel to both the Jews and Muslims. Pretty much everyone and their mothers ruled the land at some time or another. The Jewish people were oppressed at various times by different occupiers but for the most part the Muslims allowed them to keep their religion. In fact, Islamic culture was quite progressive and not as brutal as some people would have you believe. The Jewish people and Arabs lived in peace and there was freedom of religion for everyone. (Personally, I prefer freedom from religion.)

During the late 1800’s the Zionist movement began. The Zionist movement is about returning the Jewish people to their ancestor’s homeland. That’s putting it in a nutshell. It wasn’t like they couldn’t go there, its just that a seperate Jewish state didn’t exist. Telling someone the Jews should have their own country in those days would be like saying that the Catholics (oops, bad example - they have the Vatican, which is a joke of a country) or the Orthodox, or Buddhists, or Mormons should get a country of their own. In the case of Mormons it would be like they went on national television and announced that they not only want to live in the place where their ancestors came from but rule it as well. Then they would go out and annex Utah and the US wouldn’t have Utah as a state. Personally, I wouldn’t mind that but I’m sure the US would start kicking ass in Utah to get it back under control. Think of that when you think of this whole Israel thing.

The example above is oversimplified but it helps get my point across. What’s different than in the example above is this: The Jews lobby for their own state. Then the US and the other powers of the day take land that was controlled by a sovereign nation and gave it to the Jewish people. So now the Arab nations not only hate Israel but also the United States. Who the hell was advising them when then the decision was made to annex that land? Did they not look into the history of that place. That land is not something you want to be involved with.

Back to present. Now Israel exerts control over the Palestinian territories with blockades, checkpoints and giant walls. The picture at the beginning of this post was of a Palestinian rummaging for food in the trash. This man isn’t unemployed. He most likely has a job. Its just that the price of food is high and the quantity of said food is low because of blockades and restrictions Israel has put on the Palestinians.

I don’t want to sound like I blame on side or the other. I can’t comment on that. This issue is so complex that I haven’t even scratched the surface of it. My only reason for writing this is open people up to the idea that maybe not everything Israel does is okay. Maybe Israel is using excessive force? Maybe Israel is creating its own problems by the way it treats the Palestinians. This is just one aspect of the overall issue. I am in no way an expert or even particularly knowledgeable about the subject. I only wrote about what I knew.

The most important thing to take away from this article is what I said above about being open to certain ideas. The people in this country are conditioned to think that Israel can do no wrong  and this simply isn’t true.

I hate having to say this at all let alone again but I have to because of the culture here in America: Because I disagree with the way Israel behaves does not mean I am anti-semetic or anti-Israel. Nor am I pro Palestinian. This issue is very complex and both sides have done deplorable things. It just so happens that I am writing in defense of the Palestinians because it seems no one else will.

Also, if you plan on saying something about me loving terrorists or something like that in the comments, just don’t. Instead take that wasted comment and fuck yourself with it.

Nancy Goldfarb Thinks (about homosexuality a little too much for a straight person)

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

If you look in my links section you’ll see a link to a blog by a woman by the name of Nancy Goldfarb. She has views that are exactly opposite of my own. But thats no reason not to read her blog. Dissenting points of view are welcome in my world. I probably won’t agree most of the time but I certainly am interested in opposing views.

I commented on one of her articles saying that homosexuality is prevalent in 5% of all populations - animal and human. This is her response.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with homosexuality. It hurts no one. Gays want the same rights every other minority has been afforded and now there is a group of people (mostly Christians unfortunately) who want to take rights away from them. The nation’s constitution as well as every state’s constitution has only afforded people rights. Never until prop 8 has a constitution actually taken rights away from a protected group. And this is being done in the name of religion and this is being done for a variety of reasons. To defend marriage. So that children won’t be confused. Because someone cherry picked passages from the bible that they interpret to mean homosexuality is… bad for lack of a better word.

If a gay couple’s marriage somehow harms your marriage then you have another problem altogether. This marriage defense is total bull. The definition of marriage has changed many times over the course of human history. It used to be acceptable to buy your wife. It was common at one time to marry many wives. Marriage itself didn’t come about until middle ages. And these days marriage is not a religious practice. Its part of the laws of the state. You can have a priest marry you live on TV during the super-bowl with millions of witnesses and it wouldn’t count. You have to file the correct papers with the state. So since this actually a legal argument its clear that gays should be afforded the right to marry. But the anti-gay movement wants to define the argument in religious terms because they get more traction that way. Don’t be fooled. As long as you have to go into city hall to get married its a legal matter. Now as far as I know the law applies to those who are gay, straight, black, or white. If gays can’t get married under the law like anyone else then no one should be able to get married. These people who rail against gay marriage are just like those in the past who were against blacks and whites (or even asians, latinos, or whomever) getting married. Its straight up prejudice and there’s no excuse for it. The religious argument against gay marriage is crap as well. Your beliefs do no give you the right to persecute a group of people. Face it. Gays cannot and will not be “cured”. They are all around you. They work with you, ride the subway with you, they are customers, employees, brothers, sisters, musicians, actors, newspaper writers, entrepreneurs. They are everywhere and you probably interact with one or more homosexuals every day without knowing.

If one were to think rationally they would come to the conclusion that homosexuality is in no way threatening to anyone or any institution. I think that those that are so passionate about taking away homosexuals’ right to marry should find out what being gay is all about. These people are fed stereotypes and then form negative opinions of homosexuality. Let me clear a few things up. I’m not gay, but I lived with a gay roommate in college and did some research.

Homosexuals are no more promiscuous as heterosexuals
Gays are not trying to indoctrinate your children
Homos generally don’t go around doing drugs and sharing needles
etc..

I don’t know what else to say except that these are people just like you and me. You wouldn’t know they were gay unless you asked.

This hatred is irrational. This idea of extending every right to every group then extend all right except the right to marry to homosexuals is irrational. Take the time to find out the truth behind the stereotypes.

I see this hate speech almost every day. Its sad. I feel so bad that people go around hating other people because they don’t understand them or simply don’t want to understand them.

Militant Atheism

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Father Jonathan Morris is first and foremost a blathering idiot. He drools as he speaks and shits his pants while trying to make sure the world still makes sense as he listens to the voices from outside his own head. Father Jonny,( do you think he’ll mind if I call him Jonny?), is secondly a FOX News contributor. Father Jonny ended up writing a nice little article over at the FOX news blog about activist atheists rewriting history. Now I hear lots of stories on FOX that aim to promote religious views and I’ve about had it up to here (I’m pointing to my forehead). Forget what father Jon Doe said for a minute and lets (or let me) talk about why FOX promotes the religious values and why. FOX, like the right in general, want you to think in binary terms. Good or bad. Heaven or Hell. When FOX airs a story on religion it is most often not serving the purpose of building up religion but of tearing down those who aren’t religious. Worse yet, the non religious people are always liberals. But they aren’t promoting themselves as liberals- just agnostics or atheists. If you notice, the FUCKED News network will always throw in a line about them being liberal. FOX news is telling you that you are bad if you aren’t religious. And if you aren’t religious then you are a liberal. Liberal=Bad, Bad=No religion.

I’m a little dosjointed in my thinking right now but let me broaden my subject now. Hell, I’m just gonna come right out and say what I first thought when I saw Father Buttfucker’s story. Religion is a pile of shit to be flushed down the toilet of society. If you believe, fine, I won’t take that away from you. But lets stop forcing it on people. Why don’t the atheists let the nativity scenes go up. They don’t harm anyone. And I don’t mind if someone says Merry Christmas to me. I draw the line at Intelligent Design. The idea thats basically Creationism dressed up in science clothes. No way, we’re not that stupid. Take your I.D. and go design yourselves another planet to live on. Friggin dopes.

Religion is a bunch of myths. Did you know that almost every religion ever since the dawn of man had a savior born on December 25th who was born of a virgin mother and a bunch of other “coincidences” that I can’t remember.

I don’t know. This wasn’t a well thought out blog. Its just that I haven’t posted anything relevant or interesting in a while and I’ve been losing traffic to the site. Not that I get anything from web traffic, its just that I like to feel popular.

I had an interesting conversation today

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

I was talking to my friend Kristen today on the phone. She’s a conservative but I never viewed her as that. She was always just my friend Kristen. She wasn’t what I think of when I hear the word Republican or conservative. But she is and we had an interesting conversation. We talked about gays, guns, and god. On one of three issues she agreed with me. On the other two she differed. On guns slightly and on God, specifically creationism, very much. Its not that she thinks it should be taught in school. Its that she believes teaching evolution causes a problem for people of faith. I don’t care.

See, evolution is science. Science is not perfect and does not claim to have all the answers. But when it does they are observable and can be repeated. Intelligent Design however is the same thing as saying “God did it with his magic”. Please don’t tell me creationism and Intelligent Design are different. One comes from the other. Intelligent design has thrown in just enough pseudo-science so as to be able to be advocated for as if it were a real science. But when it comes right down to it Intelligent design is a fancy form of Creationism. Religion can’t be taught in schools so the Bible thumpers needed a clever way to get around that.

Evolution is a theory based on observation. It isn’t perfect or complete but it is as yet our best model for understanding how human life changes over time. It doesn’t purport to know how life started but offers several plausible explanations. It is rooted in real science. The kind that explains the physical world.

If any low or theory of science were to fall under the lax standards Intelligent Design has for itself every time an answer was too hard to find we would just say “God did it with his magic” and never take a second look. Religion and religious beliefs and spirituality are fine to have but they have no place in science. I’ve never heard of a scientist coming into a Church and telling everyone that the communion wine really doesn’t turn into the blood of Christ so I expect Intelligent Design proponents, who are overwhelmingly part of a religious agenda, to stay out of schools and laboratories peddling their garbage. Kids who haven’t learned to compartmentalize the physical world of science from the faith based world of their religion might start believing that this ID crap is true science.

No one is telling you not to believe. Believe all you want. But when you start peddling beliefs as fact you are selling someone a bill of goods. Teach whatever you want to your kids at home. But allow them to learn facts at school. You can reconcile evolution with religion. Science doesn’t want to tell anyone why they are here, just how things work now that we are here. God is the why and science is the how.

To start teaching that Intelligent Design can be just as correct as evolution is to take a step backward in our path toward knowledge as humans. One must have faith yet still keep himself firmly grounded in reality.

Gay is the new black

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Before I begin my rant tonight, which is actually meant for tomorrow (I’m handing in my homework early), I would like to thank fullbodytransplant for my very first comment from a person I do not know. Visit his blog. Very interesting stuff. Love the banana. I’ve seen this blog slowly grow from 3 views a day then jump to 31 and on average I get about 15 views a day now. Not bad for my second week. But anyway, about gay being the new black:

For the longest time I thought of blacks as the only minority. We’ve all been drilled about the struggles of African-Americans in this country from slavery to civil rights and now we have a black president. We’ve come a long way. Racism does still exist but I believe it is a generational prejudice and the current generation coming up now will be able to just about squeeze it out of existence. Of course it will never completely die but I am confident that when my generation reaches 50 or 60 years of age it will be in its last throes.

Tolerance of homosexuality on the other hand may not be on the way out. Unfortunately the hard right wing of the Republican party, especially those damn evangelicals and even Catholics for that matter, seem to have had a meeting and decided that since they can’t openly hate black people anymore they need another group to demonize. Gays apparently seemed like fair game.

This election brought with it propositions in four states to make gay marriage illegal. The verbiage used on the ballots and in advertising confused voters and I believe that at least prop 8 in California wouldn’t have passed had the issue not been so confusing. And by the way do you know who funded just about all the advertising promoting prop 8? The Mormons. The people who believe their magic undees protect them from things like demons and bullets thought it would be a good use of their time to stop gay people from getting married. Forget teaching love, forgiveness, and not to judge your fellow man- the gays trumped all that. Its sickening to me that a state would amend its constitution to take away the rights of certain citizens. A constitution, state or federal, should only be changed to give more freedoms to all citizens.

It really disgusts me that the people behind this crap are the people who are supposed to be teaching love. But religious nuts are stupid. I’m prejudiced against bible thumpers. Sorry, but if you think evolution is wrong and the development of life on earth is better explained by simply saying “God did it” (which is creationism in a nutshell) then you should get a handicap sticker for your car- because you’re retarded.

Fun fact: when a species begins to overpopulate an area it either dies because food or water supplies diminish or turns gay. Yes, there are gay animals. Its natural, normal, and nothing to be ashamed of. No matter what Bill O’Crazy says there is no homosexual agenda. I was born straight. I can watch the gay/lesbian channel all day and still be straight at the end of the day. How about gays who watch straight TV (which is basically all TV) all day? Do they get influenced by the straight agenda? Apparently not. Because it was never a choice. Gays are people just like you and me and because they are facing such prejudice these days I think Gay is the new black.

The Smelly Carcass of (all) Religion(s)

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Why do I call it a carcass? Because I think its dead. I think that religion is beginning to be replaced by spirituality. What’s the difference? Well religion is more like a club that you get initiated into. Some ancient dudes took spirituality from the people, organized it into a set of rules and rituals, then put themselves in charge and passed down its leadership from generation to generation. If you wanted to have power over people you wouldn’t become a politician. You would become a priest. So you join the club, get initiated, then you meet every Sunday and sometimes on special days that aren’t Sunday but are even more special than Sunday. You do everything as a group. You listen to what the man performing the weekly ritual tells you. Sometimes he tells you what to think. He might say “Abortion is wrong because thats how I interpreted such and such line from my 2000 year old book written by people looking to serve their own agenda just as I am today”. Well, maybe he’s not that blunt about it but you know Thats what he means.

Now spirituality is not something created by man. Its harder to grasp. Its different for everyone but the same in that everyone can be in touch with their own spirituality if they wanted and if you have a conscience or instincs (I hope to hell you have both or your a poorly put together person) then you can be spiritual. Spirituality is about acknowledging imperfection and seeing the beauty in it. Its about understanding that there is something out there greater than ourselves. A spiritual person does the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing, not because he or she is afraid of going to hell. Spiritual people don’t have an infantile image of god as a man or being of any kind really, that is on a cloud watching what we do. To the spiritual person God is a force like a wind that blows down a tree or the electricity running my computer. Spiritual people acknowledge and more often are more aware that they and every other person ARE God. Now I won’t explain that last statement that everyone is God because its a perfect example of the difference between religion and spirituality. Those who are spiritual will understand what I mean and those who are deeply religious will believe that I am arrogant and actually believe that I have godlike powers.

I’ve always had a distaste for religion. I’ve always felt it was disingenuous. My father always told me that its always the ones who are in church every week giving the most to the collection plate and playing the role of the perfect christian that are the biggest hypocrites of all. And I saw exactly what he was talking about when something was revealed about one of those people he was talking about. What she did was not a very christian thing to do. I know its bad for the argument not to explain what happened but I don’t care I just don’t want to say what happened.

Religion is dangerous. It teaches people to simplify life into black and white terms. Its been 2000 years since Jesus. His teachings are timeless but to dig into specific details of the bible and say that what you read is proof positive that something is wrong or right is ludicrous. We’ve grown so much as humans since then and some of us are trying to hold us back with their ancient book and their newfound 2000 year old mindset. I hope some of these people move on over to the side of spirituality. For the spiritual person there is room for faith AND knowledge. You can believe in God and you don’t have to reconcile science and your faith with ridiculous pseudo-science like creationism.

You CAN keep your faith and you don’t have to believe that dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago. I mean c’mon. Some of the things these people say are… well there’s just no word for how retarded it is.
